Heartbreak on a beautiful day...

It was a beautiful day today. The sun was shining through and the air was warm. Sadly, we could not enjoy it.

Today we learned the news that changed our lives. According to an OHSU specialist and Eleanor and Quinn's attending physician - Dr. Rabin - the twins have an untreatable metabolic disorder that will eventually end their lives. Sadly, they are in perfect health, with the exception of their inability to metabolize a crucial protein that the body produces.

The doctor said they might survive as long as two years - but they will never awaken from their 'sleep'.

We are heartbroken.

After we received the news, Alex and I had a chance to hold the girls in our arms. Despite all the tubes and wires coming out of them, I could feel them move, breath and make small, infant noises.

I have never cried so hard in all of my life.

  • Greg and family,
Your cousin, Kristin, sent an email to our prayer group asking us to pray for you and your family. As part of your "prayer family", we write to tell you how heartbreaking it is to hear of your twins. We, along with many, many others are praying for a miracle for your girls. These are the times in life that don't make sense and are difficult to understand. May the Lord be with you and your family through this very trying time.

    In Christ,
Kay, Barb, Billie (and many other PGE employees who care and are praying)

  • Dear Greg, Alex & family; May that sunshine day reappear & display rays of hope, trusting, & believing. Yes, These are very hard, trying times & hard to understand "Why me, God?" But HE IS GOD! He knows your broken hearts, your beautiful girls fighting to survive, your hearts desire to follow Him. You just keep holding closely, kissing & talking sweetly to those daughters of yours. They feel & hear everything. They w/know & remember the most tender touch and sound of their earthly parents. Can you have music in their rooms? When our granddaughter under 4 lbs. underwent heart surgery at 10 days old her nurses had music(Christian) we c/play for her when we had to leave the room. Music blesses the soul! These are very weary times on you as parents, too. Please take care yourselves & stay healthy. You are in our prayers. I love your website & your endless time keeping the latest news posted for us all to be updated. God bless you all - you have such a beautiful family!
